4AA:  Monday (Outdoor) Tuesday (Indoor)

Please come in your PE uniform on these days. Please ensure you have warm clothing and suitable shoes for outdoor PE days.

Children should be fluent in their times tables up to 12x. Regular practice on TT-Rockstars will support children in becoming fluent.

Autumn 1 Spellings

We use a scheme called Sounds and Syllables. This half term, we will be learning to spell words with the following spelling patterns:

  • words with elision
  • the /s/ sound spelled <sc>
  • the /ch/ sound spelled <t>
  • the /k/ sound spelled <ch>
  • the /sh/ sound spelled <ch>
  • the /s/ sound spelled <st>
  • the /i/ sound spelled <y>

Year 4 Reading Spine

It is important that children are reading regularly at home. Please take a look at the Year 4 reading spine which has suggestions of books that are by the authors we look at in school. Many of these books can be found in the school library. If not, you may be able to borrow them from Loughborough Library.

Our Learning

Moorland Discovery Centre- 29.09.26

Year 4 had a fantastic time exploring the moors at the Moorland Discovery Centre! We came back with lots of new information about the moors, the plants that grow there and the tributaries leading to Burgage Brook. We started by making a model to show why water flows downstream, which was a creative activity that required lots of precision. We then explored one of the tributaries, identifying features such as the river banks, waterfalls and source, while learning about erosion and deposition. The children also worked in small groups to measure the speed of the current, the depth and the width of the stream. It was certainly an adventurous and exciting trip, and the children thoroughly enjoyed getting out and exploring! We will use all the information we gathered to create a leaflet about the moors and rivers in our next lesson.

 

 

Science – States of Matter – 26.08.26

Today, we learned about three different states of matter. We explored how the properties of a solid, liquid and gas. We consolidated our learning by classifying objects based on their state of matter. Some of these were quite tricky, such as shaving cream and toothpaste!
