Welcome to Year 2
Please remember to bring your bookbag each day, with your reading book inside, we have the opportunity to change our library books every week . We really encourage children to be reading at least 4 times per week and logging this on Boom Reader.
Similarly, children must be fluent in their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. TT Rockstar practise will support this and we highly encourage regular play to improve the children’s speed. This is especially important for the children’s SATs later this academic year.
PE days for both classes are Tuesday – 2RF Indoor PE/2KL Outdoor PE and Thursday – 2RF Outdoor PE/ 2KL Indoor PE. On these days, you should come into school wearing your PE kit with the approrpiate footwear. Full school uniform should be worn on all other days. Please can you ensure that long hair is tied back and jewellery is removed for these days. Please bring a healthy snack for playtime and please also remember a named water bottle.

It is natural to feel anxious or upset sometimes. Childline is a helpful website that you can access 24 hours a day. There is plenty of support and advice avaliable on www.childline.org.uk

WC 7.9.26 Science
Our young scientists took their learning outdoors onto the school field for a hands-on habitat investigation! Equipped with identification guides, the children explored microhabitats to discover and identify a variety of local plants and minibeasts. Pupils carefully observed where different creatures live and discussed how specific features—like a earthworm’s sleek body for burrowing or a dandelion’s deep roots for stability—help them adapt and thrive in their environment.
WC 31.8.26 Unit- Victorian Day
Year 2 recently traveled back in time to experience an immersive Victorian school day, bringing their history curriculum to life! Dressed in traditional pinafores, waistcoats, and flat caps, the children stepped into a strictly transformed classroom where they practiced perfect posture, wrote with chalk on slate boards, chanted times tables in unison, and took part in traditional outdoor drill exercises. Throughout the day, pupils explored genuine historical artifacts, compared Victorian discipline to modern school life, and reflected on how education has evolved over time—all while demonstrating outstanding enthusiasm and historical enquiry. WC 24.8.26 Unit
We have started the year with an exciting new unit of learning all about the Victorians. In our first lesson, we explored the life of Queen Victoria and worked together to create a timeline, placing key events from her life in chronological order. We are looking forward to discovering more about Victorian life and exploring what Britain was like during her reign!
