Welcome to Year 1
Welcome back to school Year 1. We hope you had a fantastic summer and are ready for an exciting year of learning ahead. We have lots of fun learning opportunities planned for you throughout the year and we are looking forward to getting to know you all.
Please remember to bring your book bag each day, with your reading books inside. You will take home two reading books each week and these will usually be swapped on Thursday. It’s really important that you practice reading your book every day at home and logging it on Boom reader.
Please also remember to bring a named water bottle with you.
PE days for both classes are Mondays (indoor 1SS, outdoor 1LS) and Thursday (outdoor- 1SS , indoor 1LS).
On these days, you should come to school dressed in your PE kit which you will stay in all day.

As part of our “This is Me” unit, we were thrilled to visit Thinktank in Birmingham! The children had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the ‘MiniBrum’ role-play village, taking on various roles such as a vet, doctor, shop assistant, and more. This was a wonderful opportunity for the children to engage with and gain a deeper understanding of the different roles that make up their local community. As an added bonus, we also enjoyed exploring the incredibly interactive science garden.

This week in PSHE, we learned about Protected Characteristics and what it means to treat everyone with kindness, respect and fairness.
We read the story Elmer and talked about how, just like the colourful elephants in the story, we are all different and special in our own way. The children learned that everyone is welcome in our school and in our wider community.
The children were able to talk about why it is important to treat everyone with respect, include others, and make sure everyone is treated equally and fairly. We were very proud of the thoughtful ideas they shared!

This week in Computing, the children learned how to download and save their work. They practised following simple steps to make sure their work was saved safely and could be found again later. The children did a fantastic job developing their computer skills and becoming more confident when using technology!
