Welcome to Foundation! We have lots of fun learning opportunities planned throughout the year and we are so excited to watch your child flourish at Rendell.
Reading days – Books will only get changed if the previous book is returned.
Miss Benincasa – Monday

PE is on a Friday. Your child should arrive to school in their PE kit, suitable for the weather and appropriate for indoor or outdoor PE sessions.
Forest Friday is on a Friday. Please bring wellies and waterproofs. These can be left at school for the half term.
Please ensure your child has a named water bottle and all their items of clothing are labelled.
Please ensure your child brings their bookbag to school with their reading book inside everyday. Reading books will be changed weekly. Please remember to listen to your child read at least 4 times a week and log it on BoomReader!
Phonics
For Phonics information and support, please visit the Phonics section in the Parents section of our school website.
Handwriting
Please practice handwriting with your child. Using the phonics handwriting rhymes ensures the children are forming the letters correctly.
Reading
Please ensure your child reads 4 at least 4 times a week and record this on BoomReader.

7th October 2026 – The job of a postal worker
This week, we have been learning all about the important job of a postal worker and what happens to a letter once we put it in the post. To really understand the role, the children became postal customers themselves! They each made a special card to send home and we talked about how to write a card, including who it was for and what we might like to say. Some children were even able to use their early phonics knowledge to write words in their cards. All of the children proudly wrote their own names to finish their card. Once their cards were ready, the children added a stamp to their brightly coloured, addressed envelopes. Then came the exciting part… we put on our coats and headed out into the rain! On our walk, we practised some very important road safety skills, learning how to cross the road safely and how to walk carefully along the pavement.
We were also very lucky to meet a postal worker while he was out delivering letters. The children stopped for a chat and asked him what was inside his trolley. They loved seeing the parcels and letters ready to be delivered and were excited to spot postal vans travelling around our local area. Finally, we reached the big red post box and every child proudly posted their own letter. Now comes the exciting part… waiting for our letters to arrive through our own front doors on Friday
5th October 2026 – Fire fighter visit
🚒 We had a very special visit from the fire fighters today! 🚒
The children were very excited to welcome our local fire fighters and learn all about their important job. They talked us through the different equipment they keep in their fire engine and explained how each item helps them when they are called to an emergency. The children had the opportunity to sit inside the fire engine and spot some of the equipment the fire fighters need, including their helmet, boots, trousers, top, gas mask and torch. They were even able to have a go at holding some of the equipment themselves! To finish our visit, the children listened carefully to the sirens and noticed the blue flashing lights on the fire engine.
It was a fantastic, hands-on learning experience and the children showed lots of curiosity as they asked questions and explored the fire engine. We would like to say a huge thank you to Leicestershire fire fighters for taking the time to visit us!
Wb 28th September 2026 – Superhero day
What an amazing Superhero Day we had! The children arrived ready for action and began the day with superhero yoga before taking on a range of exciting superhero-themed challenges. They hunted for sounds, cracked secret repeating-pattern codes to help save Teddy from evil pea, and went round an action-packed obstacle course, where the children showed off their super speed, balance, jumping and agility skills.
The excitement continued in the afternoon with a fantastic superhero parade and they got creative making their very own superhero capes. We ended our brilliant day by relaxing together with a superhero story. It was a fantastic day full of fun, learning and plenty of superhero power!
Wb 14th September 2026 – Self- portraits
Today, we used mirrors to take a really good look at ourselves before creating our own self-portraits using paint sticks! The children carefully observed their features, noticing their eyes, nose, mouth, hair and face shape, and then used what they could see in the mirror to create their own pictures. We talked about what makes each of us unique and special, celebrating our similarities and differences.

Wb 7th September 2026 – Settling in
The children have made a fantastic start and are settling beautifully into their new routines and classroom environment. They have been busy exploring, making new friends and growing in confidence each day. We are so proud of how well they are beginning their exciting learning journey with us!
