Welcome to Year 3
Welcome to Year 3. We hope you had a brilliant summer and your child is ready for an exciting year of learning ahead. We have lots of fun learning opportunities planned throughout the year and we are looking forward to getting to know everyone.
Here are a few helpful reminders:
- Reading books need to be in school every day please. Your child will bring home two reading books each week and these will usually be swapped during the week.
- Children should be reading at least four times each week and this should be recorded on BoomReader.
- Each child has a spelling book and in this, they will be given a new set of spellings to practise at home. This needs to be brought in every Monday.
- Our new instrument this year is the ocarina. Please ensure these are kept within book bags each day as we will practise throughout the week.
- Please ensure all school uniform and water bottles are labelled.
- PE days for 3LE are on Tuesday and Wednesday. PE days for 3SB are on Wednesday and Friday.
- Please can you ensure that long hair is tied back and jewellery is removed for these days.
Thank you for your cooperation and watch this space for regular updates!

Year 3 Reading Spine
Regular reading is so important. Please have a look at the Year 3 Reading Spine which shows you some of the books and authors recommended for Year 3 readers. These also link to texts we will be reading in school. Many of these books will be available in your child’s classroom or school library. Please remember Loughborough Library is a great resource for reading for pleasure.
