Welcome to Year 2
Please remember to bring your bookbag each day, with your reading book inside, we have the opportunity to change our library books every week . We really encourage children to be reading at least 4 times per week and logging this on Boom Reader.
Similarly, children must be fluent in their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. TT Rockstar practise will support this and we highly encourage regular play to improve the children’s speed. This is especially important for the children’s SATs later this academic year.
PE days for both classes are Mondays (outdoor) and Thursdays (indoor). On these days, you should come into school wearing your PE kit with the approrpiate footwear. Full school uniform should be worn on all other days. Please can you ensure that long hair is tied back and jewellery is removed for these days. Please bring a healthy snack for playtime and please also remember a named water bottle.
If you have any questions, then please ask one of us (Miss Lipiak and Mrs Spencer).
Reading
Regular reading is so important. Please have a look at the Year 2 Reading Spine which shows you some of the books and authors recommended for Year 2 readers.
Please see the example questions below you could ask your child to support the development of their reading skills.

5.11.25 Topic 1 Exhibition
Today , we welcomed parents and carers to our classroom to showcase and share our work during the Victorian Topic as well as the Unicef Week. It was lovely to see so many parents and we enjoyed immensly talking about all the things we have learned.
WC 27.10.25 UNICEF Week
To truly understand how to protect our world, Year 2 delved into Global Goals 11, 12, and 13! Focusing on keeping our planet clean and tackling climate change, we embarked on a special project: designing and building our own litter grabbers. This hands-on challenge taught us all about the mechanics of levers and linkages. We put our measuring, cutting, and safety skills to the test, working precisely to construct the final devices. The week culminated in a thrilling testing session, where several of our grabbers proved highly effective at collecting small weights. This was a fantastic week where we saw our classroom learning come to life with the clear, purposeful goal of making a difference to our planet!
WC.13.10.25
We are incredibly proud of all the children who earned a certificate this week! Whether for showing outstanding independence, brilliant curiosity, superb responsibility, or dedicated hard work (and so many other amazing qualities!), each certificate celebrates a special achievement and the fantastic effort our pupils put into their learning and school life every single day. A massive well done to every single recipient! Keep shining bright, everyone!

This week in art lessons we explored the work of L.S. Lowry. We created artist profile in our sketchbooks and tried to recreate part of his painting using HB, 4B and 8B pencils. We also sketched flowers exploring different tones and grades we could create.

This week in our outdoor PE session, we had great fun developing our netball skills! We worked on passing the ball with speed and accuracy, practised shooting on target, and even learned how to pivot like real netball players.

This week we sequenced and retold Jim And The Beanstalk. We used story mountains to help us and tried to include some adverbials. After that we have written the story in our own words.
