Autumn Week – wb 13th October 2025

What a wonderful week we’ve had celebrating Autumn in Foundation! Our learning environment was transformed into a cosy autumn cottage, complete with soft blankets and a glowing fireplace to spark imagination and conversation.

In our small world area, we explored this week’s book ‘Pumpkin Soup’ with themed resources that inspired storytelling, role play, and collaboration. Over in the maths area, we investigated the weight of different autumn treasures, comparing conkers, pinecones, and crunchy leaves.

The children loved rolling conkers and mixing up their own versions of pumpkin soup in our orange water tray. We also got creative by crafting pipe cleaner leaf caterpillars, developing fine motor skills while exploring autumn colours and textures.

A highlight of the week was our Autumn walk, where we collected natural treasures — bright berries, colourful leaves, sticks, moss, sycamore seeds, and even dandelion puffballs! The children used their finds to make beautiful Autumn crowns fit for woodland royalty.

To round off our week, we worked in small groups to make real pumpkin soup. The children carefully chopped, stirred, and of course — tasted! It was a perfect, cosy end to a fantastic Autumn-themed week full of curiosity, creativity, and seasonal magic.

Special Delivery From Foundation! Thursday 9th October

As part of our learning about the important role of postal workers, the children took a very special walk to the local post box today! Each child wrote their own letter home, addressed their envelope, and added a real stamp — just like a true letter writer. We were even lucky enough to spot some postal workers in action, posting letters and filling their vans. Some children even got to peek inside the post box to see where all the letters go! We learned so much about how our post is collected and delivered — and we can’t wait for families to receive their surprise letters soon!

Firefighter Visit Wednesday 1st October

What an exciting day! The children had an amazing visit from Loughborough Fire Station. They held the hoses, sat in the fire engine, heard the sirens and saw the blue flashing lights. The firefighters explained their role in the community and showed us it’s about so much more than just fires. A huge thank you to the team for giving the children such a brilliant experience!

Superhero WOW Day Thursday 11th September

Our Superhero Day was an action-packed adventure from start to finish! The children arrived dressed as their favourite heroes and began designing their own capes in the Art area. Out on the field, we transformed into a superhero training camp, where everyone took part in thrilling challenges—zooming through obstacle courses, leaping over “towering buildings,” tossing shields with skill, and safely “defusing bombs.” We even discovered that superhero costumes give us the power to run at lightning speed! It was a day filled with energy, imagination, and plenty of super smiles.
