Helping your child to settle in

When your child is due to start, you and your child will be invited to attend some settling in sessions. The first of these sessions will be with a parent / carer after school, and provides the ideal opportunity for you to discuss your child’s routine, as well as time to ask any questions and share information about your child’s likes and dislikes. During this first session we provide you with a form called ‘All about Me’ which asks for important information about your child and your family. Following this we invite your child to a second session where they are encouraged to explore the setting for a short time on their own.

How we care for your child

Each child is provided with their own special peg where they can leave their coats. You child will also be provided with a drawstring bag that will stay at Pre-school to keep any spare clothing. You do not need to send your child with a bag everyday. Staff will inform you if you need to refill your drawstring bag.

We ask that you send your child into our setting with the following name labelled items:

A Waterproof coat
Wellies
Spare clothes to put in the drawstring bag provided: trousers, socks, jumper, t shirt and underwear
A water bottle
A sun hat and sun cream (Summer)
Hat and gloves (Winter)

Our toileting and nappy changing policy is available on our main school website under School Policies.

Fruit and Milk

We ask that you provide a mid-session snack. This might be a piece of fruit, vegetable sticks, rice cakes, or raisins. Please do not send your child in with a nutty snack. We are a nut free school. Please put your childs snack in a a named disposable bag. We have a named organiser where children can store their snacks.

Your child will need to bring a named water bottle for each session. If you wish for your child to have milk during snack time, please go onto the cool milk website where you can order it.

School Uniform

At ‘Little Owls’ we encourage parents to provide their child with a Pre-School uniform. This allows the children to feel part of Rendell school and gives them a sense of belonging.

The Pre-school uniform consists of:

Little Owls jumper / cardigan
Little Owls polo-shirt
Blue or black jogging bottoms / leggings
Plain black shoes / trainers

‘Little owls’ jumpers / cardigans and polo-shirts can be purchased from Rosebuddies uniform suppliers in Loughborough. Rosebuddies also have a stall on Loughborough market days.
