Rendell Primary School & Fearon Pre-School

School closes today for the half-term break and re-opens on Monday 1st June

A round up of the term so far

It has been a busy few weeks, as predicted, with lots happening both in and out of school.  Year 4 enjoyed their day at Cadbury World finding out about the history of chocolate and came away with free samples to test!  The Foundation children have been to Beaumanor Hall to take part in activities about ‘Stickman’ and Year 1 visited Sherwood Forest in their search for Robin Hood and The Big Oak!

All of the children in Year 6 completed their SATs last week – they worked very hard and deserve a very big ‘well done’.  Year 2 will have their statutory tests during the first week back after half term and over the next few weeks all other year groups will be completing their teacher assessments.

As part of their topic work about the Aztecs, Year 4 have been working with David Stinson to put together a performance for their parents and families which took place yesterday.  The children thoroughly enjoyed having the audience in to watch them and I’m sure you’ll agree that there were all brave and brilliant children.  A very much deserved well done and thank you goes to David, the children and the staff.  David will be continuing his fabulous work with us after half term.

Whole school topic week

This week the whole school has been learning about China and Chinese traditions.  The children have been involved in lots of different activities, for example Year 6 children have found out what a tea ceremony is and Foundation children have all made dancing dragons.  Please ask your child/children to tell you about what they’ve been doing.

Town Sports

The summer term will as always be quite a ‘sporty’ time at Rendell with us taking part in the Town Sports events at Loughborough University.  Preparations and organisation for the different events are already keeping Miss Smith and Mr Buxton extremely busy.  The children have already had their try outs for the relay teams and will be practising at lunch-times after half term.  Trials for the other events will also take place after the holiday.  It would be great for the parents of our teams to come along to support them when they compete.  The relay heats are on Monday 15th June at 4.00pm followed by the finals and all other events on Saturday 4th July at 12.00 noon.  All the events are held at Loughborough University and there is usually an entry fee, payable at the gate, for the Saturday events.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Looking forward

Year 5 have been finding out about what life was like for people during WW2.  As part of this learning they are off to London on 10th June to investigate further and will be ‘kipping’ on HMS Belfast before they return on the 11th.  We want to thank all of the parents for supporting this trip and to thank the staff for giving the time to escort them.  Year 5 will be sharing what they have learned in an assembly on Monday 29th June at 2.30pm.  All parents and families of the Year 5 children are invited to come and watch.

A Samba drumming instructor has been coming in to school to work with the Year 3 children every week in preparation for a performance that they have been invited to take part in later in June.  Letters will be coming home to the parents of Year 3 children after the half term with more details of where and when the performance will be.

ESOL recruitment

There will be an ESOL recruitment event at the Shree Ram Krishna Centre on Monday 1st June, between 9.00am and 12.00 noon. If you are interested then please go along.  You will need to take your passport and proof of any benefit you may receive.
