World War 1 in Year 1

These first two weeks, Year 1 have been learning all about World War 1. Children have read and shared facts about WWI, through active learning, to their friends. They drew a soldiers` care box and thought what they would like in their care box if they were soldiers.

Children learnt about Remembrance Day, the importance of poppies and created different art work. They also pretended to be soldiers and wrote letters to their families and re-enacted different scenes from the war (during and after the war).

They were so engaged and motivated about all the learning that was taken place at school that some children created their own poppies out of different materials and one created a scene of the war. Have a look at the photos below.
